Losing Weight Safely When You Are Obese

Your doctor has told you that you need to lose weight because your obesity puts you at high risk for diseases and health conditions like diabetes, heart disease and other things.
You want to lose weight safely and your doctor has given you some guidelines. You can also contact a registered dietician or a nutritionist for additional diet guidelines. Here are some other steps you can take to lose weight safely.

A good rule of thumb to follow for safe weight loss is to eat 300 to 500 fewer calories each day in order to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week.

Read labels when buying foods to see what the portion size is and then when making your meal read the label again to remind yourself what the correct serving (portion) size is and then when serving your meal put only the correct portion size on your plate and no going back for seconds.

It is important to eat in moderation even when eating at restaurants. Most restaurants give you enough food for two or even three people sometimes so be extra careful when you are eating out.

Losing weight is not just about food it is also about exercising every day. Weight training is a wonderful exercise if you want permanent results but weight training may not be for everyone. Any cardiovascular activity will work for losing weight. Do aerobic exercises such as walking or riding a stationary bike. Exercise is the way that our bodies burn the calories that we consume. If we eat fewer calories each day and then make a point to exercise each day we will lose weight. If doing aerobic exercise you want to exercise for at least 20 minutes. You don’t have to do anything strenuous just make sure you do it consistently. 20 to 30 minutes of cardio exercises three times a week is a great start that will allow you to see results quickly. It does not have to be hard to exercise but you do not to make consistent effort.

Stay away from any diet that is based on eating only one food or one food group. Your body needs many different foods in order to have the vitamins and minerals needed for good health. Just because you are obese and need to lose weight does not mean that your body doesn’t need good nutrition. Good nutrition is very important when it comes to losing weight. Eating proper amounts of fiber can aid weight loss. Just be certain to drink lots of water when you increase the fiber content of your diet.
