Be Eco Friendly by Breastfeeding
In the past ten years or so, we’ve become increasingly aware of the need to radically change the way we live just so we don’t use up all of the earth’s resources. As a new mother, caring for the planet may be the furthest thing from your mind. Right now, you have to worry about your baby’s well-being and the time you spend with them. The ecological problem that the world is facing is the last thing you need to worry about. But you have to also look around you to realize that this is the world that your child will grow up in. What will happen to them if no one thought of the environment? You could be raising your child to live in a world with depleted resources and lots of pollution.
You can do your part just by being an active believer and practitioner of breastfeeding. This is probably the most overlooked means of contributing to the planet’s health. What is breast milk anyway? In simplest terms, this is a valuable and renewable source of nutrition. You can freely give this to your baby without worrying about the waste you create. Baby formulas still use up a good fraction of the earth’s resources. Aside from the milk inside the can, you also have to think about where they get the packaging and the machinery used to bring all these together. It’s so much more than you think. Breastfeeding is not just a lifestyle choice. It is also a health issue for both mother and infant.
Scientists and parents are already very much aware that the mother’s milk is still the best food to give her newborn baby. Nature has gifted you with the best thing you can ever give your child. If you looked at the commercials, even baby formulas say that there is nothing like breast milk. If you have more than enough supply for your baby, you ought to give them what they need and at the same time, save yourself from the unnecessary spending. The milk in your body provides all the important nutrients for your baby’s physical and mental development for at least six months. You also give them further immunity to ward off diseases. Babies who are breastfed experience fewer incidents of infection, allergies, diarrhea, and many other problems.
Concerns have also been raised about the pollutants now present in mother’s milk. After all, the world is getting filthier and the diets are getting worse. The amount of unhealthy substances in your body is to be expected. But research has confirmed that despite all these issues, this form of feeding still offers more advantages that far outweigh the risks of ingesting contaminants. In fact, formulas still have more toxins in them. Of course, you need not concern yourself too much with this. You risk a lot with everything you eat, but most of these aren’t deadly. Nonetheless, if you can lessen the amount of contaminants they take in, then you should do it. If you just make people realize the good it does for your child, then maybe more mothers will do their best to become more environmentally helpful.
